Ms. Rosenberg’s Final Paper:
A World Without Search Engines
Picture this: you sit down for class, and you are told to research a topic that you have never heard of before. What's your first instinct? Look it up, right?
Well, if search engines were never invented, that wouldn't be a possibility, now would it?
See what Danny and his friends do when they are confronted with this task...the results of not using a search engine may just suprise you.
A sneak peak...
Danny went to his first class feeling even more anxious than he had ever been–he knew today was going to be a struggle from the moment he snoozed his first alarm. Danny had known that this final project was coming at some point but had hoped that he could push it off for as long as humanly possible. Rosenberg taught their junior year elective course, where their grade is dictated by only a single, ‘all-powerful,’ paper. It appeared as though the many classes on “utilizing library resources” and “where to look for the best information” were finally going to come in handy. Danny and his classmates were about to understand just how time-consuming research can be. After enduring 70 grueling minutes of pre-calculus, Danny was on his way to room 265, Ms. Rosenberg’s classroom. As he entered, he saw a message scrawled on the chalkboard that read:
FINAL PAPER TOPIC: ITALIAN ART IN THE 19TH CENTURY LENGTH: 10 PAGES AT LEAST 5 SOURCES IF ACCESS TO A COMPUTER, USE TYPING FUNCTION, IF NOT, HAND-WRITE
Peter turned to Danny, “Is this a joke?”
“Did she have to choose the one topic that the library has the least books on?” whined Sam.
“What is she playing at here? It's gonna take hours to find a single book on this dumb topic,” Danny added with contempt.
